Some people who are allergic to pollen also find that they are allergic to some types of fresh fruit and vegetables. The reason for this is that allergenic material on the surface of pollen can be very similar to allergenic material on the surface of certain foods. As the body is unable to distinguish between these allergens, there may also be an allergic reaction when eating particular foods.
For example, people with grass pollen allergy may find that they are also allergic to fresh melon, orange, tomato, wheat and
peanuts. This general effect is called cross-reactivity.
Allergy cure
The treatment and possible cure of one type of allergy can sometimes result in the cure of other type of allergy. The treatment of hay fever can for example influence and diminish the allergic reactions of certain food allergies.
